911 Works (even when you don't mean it to)

I picked up the phone to call Chef at work.  I dialed 9, 1 and then said to myself "Damn, I'm not at work I don't need the 9."  I hung up and then started again 1, and the phone started to ring on the other end.  I hung up thinking that's weird.  Started to dial the number again and was interrupted by call waiting.  It was the 911 operator saying that someone had called them and hung up.  Apparently my first 9,1 number never fully disconnected so that when I dialed the next 1, it went to them!  So I explained what happened, apologized profusely, answered the questions so they could make sure things were ok.  Then I called Chef.  In the middle of that call, there was a knock at the door.  It was the police checking up.  I invited him in but he said no.  I apologized again and he said it was OK and not to worry about it.  How embarrassing.

All because I wanted Chef to bring home some cream cheese from work.

The cream cheese is for bagels for tomorrow.  I've got to go to bed early tonight because I'll be up at 2:00 in order to get to a meeting by 3:00 a.m.  Yep, another one of those. But, at least I didn't have to fly over there.  I'm putting in 12 hour days and time on weekends as it is.   I'm treading water now but it's rising fast.  If I lost time by travelling I'd really be sunk quickly.  I thought about packing a grilled chicken salad for my break instead of bagels but it'll be like 6 or 7 a.m.  And I'm not sure I can do salad that early in the day.

That's my latest news.  Cops and cream cheese

I guess I would be embarrassed too, if that happened to me, but I'm sure you aren't the first and won't be the last.

Happened to me in college. The police came to our apartment insisting that we had called 911. We really hadn't. It actually happened more than once before we realized it was probably one of our friends' phone numbers being entered incorrectly... *shrug* what can you do?
